Czechoslovakia 1962
Czechoslovakia reached their second World Cup final at Chile 1962, 28 years after the first. With pragmatic football and the class of Josef Masopust that year's Ballon d'Or winner the Czechs navigated a difficult group stage and eliminated Yugoslavia in the semi-finals. In the final, Masopust put them 1-0 ahead with a brilliant individual goal. But Brazil, even without Pelé, were too strong: Amarildo, Zito, and Vavá turned the match around for a 3-1 final scoreline. Czechoslovakia returned home as runners-up for the second time an enormous achievement for a small nation that never feared the giants.
