Saudi Arabia 1994
Saudi Arabia made their World Cup debut at USA 1994 and immediately produced one of the tournament's most memorable moments. In the group stage against Belgium, Saeed Al-Owairan picked up the ball inside his own half and embarked on a breathtaking solo run dribbling past five defenders before slotting home a goal that drew instant comparisons to Maradona's Goal of the Century. It remains one of the greatest individual goals in World Cup history. The Green Falcons, managed by Argentine Jorge Solari, beat both Belgium and Morocco to advance from the group the first Asian team to win multiple group-stage matches in a single World Cup. A 3-1 defeat to Sweden in the round of 16 ended the adventure, but Saudi Arabia had announced themselves on the world stage with style and audacity that nobody had expected.
