A group-stage exit in 2010 had been a sobering lesson. Cameroon returned in 2014 with renewed purpose. Under Volker Finke, they were ready to write the next chapter.
It was a tournament to forget for Cameroon, who left without a single victory to their name. Goals proved hard to come by, with just 1 in 3 matches, and their lack of firepower ultimately told.
Cameroon found the group stage unforgiving, unable to pick up a single victory against their opponents. Their campaign featured a narrow 0-1 loss to Mexico, a heavy 0-4 defeat to Croatia, and a heavy 1-4 defeat to Brazil. The World Cup dream ended earlier than hoped, with Cameroon bowing out in the first round.

The tactical mind behind Cameroon's 2014 campaign. Winless under Finke leading Cameroon at his first World Cup.
Cameroon's tactics were likely focused on survival given the size of their squad and the strength of opponents. Their formation may have been defensive to make up for player shortage.
