Bafana Bafana return to the World Cup under Broos with captain Williams, the explosive Appollis, and the domestic spine of Sundowns and Pirates.
South Africa return to a World Cup for the first time since hosting in 2010. Bafana Bafana's 2023 AFCON bronze-medal run under Hugo Broos set the stage. The squad combines Percy Tau, Themba Zwane, and Ronwen Williams with younger PSL stars.
South Africa experienced an inconsistent group stage, mixing moments of promise with frustrating setbacks. In the knockout rounds, they were narrowly knocked out by Canada in the Round of 32. The narrowest of defeats against Canada ended what had been a promising tournament run.
