The Campaign

World Cup 1994

Brazil wrote themselves into World Cup history with a triumphant campaign that left little doubt about their quality. With 11 goals in 7 games, they carried a consistent attacking threat throughout. They went the entire tournament unbeaten, a testament to their resolve.

The Defining Moment

Brazil 1994

Brazil won USA 1994 after a 24-year World Cup drought the longest wait in the Seleção's history. Carlos Alberto Parreira's side, more pragmatic than poetic, advanced on the back of Dunga's midfield steel and the intermittent magic of Romário, the tournament's best player. The final on 17 July at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, before 94,194 spectators under scorching heat, ended 0-0 after 120 minutes the first goalless final in World Cup history. Everything was decided on penalties. Italy missed three: Franco Baresi blazed over, Daniele Massaro was saved by Taffarel, and finally Roberto Baggio the best player in the world, wearing the number 10 and carrying all the responsibility fired over the crossbar. Brazil celebrated their fourth world title while the image of Baggio, head bowed at the penalty spot, became one of the saddest in all of football.
