Brazil 1958
Brazil arrived at Sweden 1958 carrying the trauma of the Maracanazo in 1950 and a quarter-final exit in 1954. But this time they brought a 17-year-old named Pelé and the magical Garrincha. In the final on 29 June in Solna, Sweden took the lead the only team in the entire tournament to score first against Brazil. Vavá equalised quickly and then scored again for the lead. In the second half, Pelé scored one of the most celebrated goals in history: a chest control, a flick over the defender, and an unstoppable volley. Mário Zagallo and Pelé again completed a dazzling 5-2 victory. Brazil became the first team to win a World Cup outside their own continent, and introduced the world to jogo bonito a style of football of unrepeatable beauty that changed the sport forever.
